Website content questionnaire: questions to send your client

Use these questions as a starting point for your next project. They are written in plain language, so clients can answer without knowing web design terms.

Goals

Start with why the site exists. The answers guide every other page.

  1. What is the main thing you want visitors to do on the site?
  2. Who is your ideal customer, and what do they worry about before buying?
  3. Which websites do you like, and why?
  4. Who are your main competitors?

About the business

These answers shape the home page and the tone of the whole site.

  1. What do you do, and who do you help?
  2. What result or feeling do customers get from working with you?
  3. What makes you different from similar businesses nearby?
  4. How did the business start?

Offer

Ask for each service or product on its own line.

  1. What services or products do you want on the site?
  2. For each one: who is it for, and what is included?
  3. Which prices do you want to publish, if any?
  4. What do customers usually ask before they buy?

Proof and trust

Ask only for what can be shown honestly.

  1. Do you have reviews you have permission to publish?
  2. Which licenses, memberships or guarantees can you back up?
  3. Do you have photos of real work, with permission from the people in them?

Next step

Every page should end with a clear next step.

  1. What should a visitor do next: call, book, request a quote or buy?
  2. Where should that button lead?
  3. How fast do you usually reply?

Practical details

These are easy to forget and hard to chase later. The website content checklist covers access and legal details too.

  1. Public email, phone and address
  2. Opening hours and holiday hours
  3. Social media links
  4. Any notices your site must show

Tips for better answers

Add a short hint under each question and a clearly labelled example. Ask for original files, not screenshots. Accept answers in the client’s own language; you can polish the wording together later. For a process that keeps answers coming, read how to get content from clients.
